Money was raised in support of the charity Charlie's Beach Hut which provides a holiday experience for people with family members who may have terminal or life limiting illness.

The 12-hour journey began from the pub with the bikers making the round trip to Perran Sands in Cornwall where the hut is based.

Landlady and organiser, Susan Forster, said: '˜One of our members of staff were doing the ride and when they mentioned it in the pub a number of locals wanted to get involved. We are keen to support the charity as it is run by a local family who lost their son, Charlie, to a brain tumour two weeks before his fifth birthday.'

The location in Cornwall was chosen as the destination as it is a place Charlie and his parents enjoyed family holidays.

The ride was completed by four bikers and four support staff, including Susan.

'˜The weather was horrific and it rained for 75 per cent of the day. We left at 6.30 in the morning and didn't return until 6.30 in the evening. It was a real team effort and we all stayed together,' said Susan.

In addition to providing beachfront holiday accommodation the charity also provides families with £250 of spending money.

'˜The idea is to give families a worry free holiday in which they can create special memories with their children,' added Susan.

The ride raised a £1,515 to take the pub's total donations to the charity to over £10,000 in three years.

'˜The charity is really important as we have a special personal relationship and regularly communicate. We raise money through our weekly quiz and Sunday raffles,' said Susan.
