Jordan Webster, from Fratton, fell from a balcony in Goa in December and suffered a fractured arm, pelvis and eye socket.

His family started an online fundraising campaign to fly him home and pay for treatment - and have received more than £18,000 from people in the community.

About 300 people attended a charity event at the Manor House Pub in Court Lane on Saturday night to support the family.

Jordan’s mother Avril said the response had been ‘absolutely incredible’.

‘Jordan is so grateful for all the help,’ she said speaking on BBC radio.

‘He is overwhelmed with how everyone remembers him and has gone out of their way to help him.’

She added that he was facing about ‘eight or nine months’ of physiotherapy.

Last month the family were told they would need to raise £18,000 to pay for nine seats on an aircraft, needed to transfer Jordan using a stretcher.

Jordan, 26, was a former pupil at St Edmund’s Catholic School in Portsmouth.
