Lorraine Kelly is leaving Good Morning Britain - this is why

Lorraine Kelly has left the cast of Good Morning Britain (GMB).

The presenter said she was looking forward to getting "back to a little bit of normality", and will return to her more usual duties, fronting her own show, called Lorraine.

Kelly's programme had been added on to the end of GMB during the coronavirus crisis, and she had presented from the same studio that saw broadcasts from Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid.

What's changing?

Usually, Lorraine would emanate from its own studio, but in light of lockdown restrictions, filming was moved to the GMB studio.

With Kelly's own studio now able to reopen, production will be relocated back there, and the morning schedules will look a little more 'normal'.

Kelly posted a trademark cheery video to her website in which she explained the changes.

"Hi everyone, it’s Lorraine here," she said.

"As of Monday, we’re going to be back in our studio which we’re all very excited about.

"It’s been lovely being with the guys at GMB, but it’ll be so nice to sort of get back to a little bit of normality and be back in here. So I’ll see you on Monday!"

Why was Lorraine part of GMB?

In March, ITV released a statement explaining the changes to its morning schedules.

"ITV Daytime has taken the decision to stop broadcasting Lorraine and Loose Women live from Monday 23rd March," the TV channel said.

"This decision has been made to minimise the number of staff travelling in and out of our studios and working together on shift at any one time."

The move was taken to "protect" the GMB News programme in the morning "and keep This Morning on air for as long as possible.”

"We’re focusing our efforts on providing to viewers the latest news on the rapidly changing situation which aims to offer some stability and continuity in all our lives whilst so many of us are at home right now,” added ITV.
