Recalls: warnings issued over two products due to fire risk

The Chartered Trading Standards Institute has posted warnings about two recalled products this week due to fire risk.

Electric blankets were voluntarily recalled from sale by the manufacturer due to a defect which "may cause the blanket to spark or go on fire", while a high street store has recalled a range of cushions after tests revealed that they pose a "flammability risk".

Daewoo Double Sized Electric Blanket (HEA1179) and Single Sized Electric blanket (HEA1178)

Musgrave Group has voluntarily recalled its Daewoo branded single and double sized electric blankets.

A statement from the company read: "A potential safety issue has been identified whereby a manufacturing defect may cause the blanket to spark or go on fire."

For double sized blankets only model number HEA1179 is affected, whilst for single sized blankets only model number HEA1178 is affected by this recall.

Owners of the affected products are advised to stop using them immediately, and to return the item to the store of purchase for a full refund.

Matalan two-pack cushions and velvet cushions

Matalan has recalled a range of cushions after tests revealed they didn't meet the retailer's "usual high standards for quality and safety."

A notice from the company read: "Our investigations have discovered that the filling of the cushions may pose a flammability risk when subjected to prolonged exposure to an ignition source.

"This poses a potential fire risk. As customer safety is our highest priority, we are immediately recalling these cushions."

These products were on sale from 12 June 2017 to 23 March 2018.

If you've bought any of the cushions, return them to your nearest Matalan store as soon as possible for a full refund. You will not need to have your receipt.
