TUI has extended its holiday cancellations to Portugal - here’s how long for
TUI has extended its cancellations for holidays to Portugal until mid-August, as the country remains on the UK government’s travel ban list.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) is still advising against all but essential international travel to Portugal, with any holidaymakers who do travel to the country facing a 14 day quarantine on their return.
Portugal failed to be added to the government’s quarantine free list of countries after a spike in cases in Lisbon.
How long have holidays been cancelled for?
All TUI holidays to Portugal have been cancelled until 17 August 2020.
Holidaymakers who are due to travel to Portugal between 17 and 30 August can now amend their booking for free, or cancel it for a full cash refund. At present, holidays between these dates have yet to be cancelled.
TUI has said it will continue to review its holiday offers “in line with UK government advice.”
Travellers who have booked holidays to Spain can also take advantage of this free cancellation policy, after the government removed the country from its list of low risk countries at short notice on 26 July.
Holidays to mainland Spain have been cancelled until 17 August, while bookings to the Balearic and Canary Islands are cancelled until 10 August.
When can I travel to Portugal?
The FCO is currently advising all UK nationals against all but essential international travel to Portugal.
However, as of 4 July Madeira and the Azores are exempt from the advice against all non-essential travel, based on the assessment of coronavirus risks. Despite this, the requirement to self-isolate on returning to the UK from Portugal, including Madeira and the Azores, still remains in place.
Travellers who do visit mainland Portugal will be subject to a health screening. If you are travelling to Madeira, Porto Santo or the Azores, you must take a coronavirus test before you travel, or on arrival.
On returning to the UK, you will be subject to quarantine requirements and will need to self-isolate for 14 days, and provide your journey and contact details.
