This month sees the highlight of our University calendar, graduation. Graduation marks the culmination of years of dedication and hard work, and brings together students, families and staff to celebrate in a formal yet joyful atmosphere, writes Becky Miles from the University of Portsmouth.

If you’re near the city centre later this month, you’ll probably spot our graduates wearing traditional academic gowns and caps – you may even be one of them, or celebrating alongside a friend or family member, as many graduates are from our local community.

However, we’ve also got some exciting news for our local business community too . . .

The Marketing Agency

Are you muddled with marketing, baffled by branding, or stumped by social media?!?

A new collaboration between Portsmouth City Council, Shaping Portsmouth and the university will be able to help your business.

We’re working together to create the Marketing Agency – a service where our students act as a marketing agency and bring new ideas and customer insights to your business.

We can help you to gain valuable customer insights to enable tailored marketing, create buyer personas and define your target audience, conduct market research in response to a marketing challenge, explore what are the newest trends in your market, and more.

Anne Murphy, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education), said: “I’m delighted to see us furthering our already great relationships with Shaping Portsmouth and Portsmouth City Council, with this new initiative.

The Marketing Agency is a great example of our ambitious and engaging curriculum. It will give our students invaluable real-world experience which counts towards their degrees and provide our local business community with innovative ideas and expertise.

Last chance to apply for our Senior Leader Apprenticeship

Earlier this month, the Government announced that public funding for Master’s Level Apprenticeships will be removed for people aged 22 and older from January 2026.

That means that this will be the last opportunity for those over 21 to undertake our Postgraduate Senior Leadership Apprentice free of charge.

The apprenticeship has helped many of our graduates progress to roles as chief executives and global directors, whilst also chosen to build on their expertise by continuing their studies with our MBA Senior Leadership (Top-Up).

Amy Doyle, Business Engagement Co-ordinator and applicant onto the Senior Leader Apprenticeship said: "I've always been a passionate advocate for lifelong learning, so I’m really excited about this opportunity to get a new qualification, thanks to the Apprenticeship route.”
