Angels delight and Stars shine

Emma Hoare's best efforts were not enough to prevent Gems sliding to a 47-36 defeat at the hands of Angels in Portsmouth League premier division one.

Hoare shot superbly for Gems, while defending well down court but it was Angels celebrating at the end of the game.

Stars II chalked up their first win of the season as they pulled away at half-time to defeat Misfits 42-26.

Recently-promoted Bluebells faced defending champions Stars but the scoreline did not reflect the game as the holders won 73-21.

Bluebells centre Vicki Leslie worked her socks off in the fast-paced game but could do little to halt her in-form opponents.

Wrong Direction had a close game against Teamforce – which could have gone either way.

But the latter kept their cool at the end to win 43-41.

In premier division two, Skywatch recorded their first win as they beat recently-promoted Magics 36-28.

And Taylor Cocks claimed their first five points in a very close and competitive clash with newcomers Westowen winning.

Westowen led from the start only for Cocks to deliver a superb final quarter to win 47-42.

Leaders Falcons look unstoppable this season.

They beat Cowplain Cruisers 53-43 in their latest outing, with Hayley Ford impressing.

Trojans won a friendly game with recently-relegated Scorpios 39-23.

AMG remained top of division one following a huge 50-24 win over Heaven Sent and SOS beat Cartek 37-20 thanks to a fine team effort.

Blueberries beat Dolphins 47-40 in a close battle to hold on to second spot.

BMS worked hard to fight back from behind and beat Junction 32-24.

In division two, Fusion claimed their first win in a 34-29 triumph over JPC.

Dominant defence and unstoppable shooting from Laura Rouse saw Tenth Hole Tigers beat Purbrook Passion 50-39.

Jelly Beans held off a late comeback from Zest to claim a third win with a 28-27 success.

And Jelly Tots had a superb third quarter in their 29-22 win over leaders Teamforce II.

Purbrook Poppies rose to top spot in division three with a 34-33 defeat of Cocktails. Springers Right claimed their first five points in a 31-11 win over Westowen Reds.

Hornets eased to a 34-22 victory over Springers Left and Pebbles got off the mark with a 36-33 defeat of Fishbourne Flames.

In division four, Chameleons lost 40-20 to Purbrook Petals and Purple Chaos saw off Abar Tigers 37-21.

DSTL Dragons beat six-player Westowen Hotshots 26-19, while league leaders Woodmancote won 39-21 against Purbrook Polkadots.
