Chairman Phil Budd praised the City youngsters who have shone in the under-13, under-15 combined league.

He also thanked managers Andy Vincent and Paul Duxbury who have led the squad to great success.

‘It’s been another very successful season,’ said Budd.

‘We’ve had four successive promotions since this format was set up after Seb Coe’s review of competition and structure.

‘Every time we have gone up, the geographical spread has increased and this year there was a lot of travelling involved.

‘We didn’t have a home match either so that makes the achievement even greater.

‘For some of the matches you have up to 60 athletes taking part and you certainly can’t win the league with one or two national champions.

‘We’re chuffed about it, we’re in a good place at the moment.

‘Andy and Paul did a great job and we thank them for their efforts along with our team of officials including Helen Lockyer, Alan Powell, Louise Lockyer and thanks to Kim March for standing in for me for most of the final match.

‘The list of parents assisting is also very long so a huge thanks to all.’

City finished top with 23 points, four clear of Havering in second, with Croydon a further five points back in third.

Dan Thurgood and Gary Sprake will take charge of the team in the top-flight next summer.
