Kesron’s early wickets help Portsmouth Community CC collect first competitive victory

Portsmouth Community strolled to their first ever competitive victory against Kerala 2nds.

They trounced their city-based rivals by 109 runs to collect their opening Hampshire District League Regional P division success.

Jamie Nottage - one of the club’s founder members - hit an unbeaten 76 and Matt Davies added 66 as Community posted 193-3.

Opening bowler Kesron McDonald (3-29) ripped out three of Kerala’s top order in reply.

Only the two openers reached double figures - top scorer K Hari was run out for 33 - as Kerala were dismissed for 84.

Shiekh Ahmed returned figures of 5-3-6-3, and one of the runs he conceded was a wide - one of 15 that Community contributed to Kerala’s innings.

Opening bowler Jack Whiteaway took 2-22.

Stan McLeod took six cheap wickets as Railway Triangle 2nds thrashed Emsworth 2nds in the same division.

The fifth and final bowler used by his side, McLeod bagged 6.4-1-35-6 as Emsworth were bowled out for 143 in reply to Triangle’s 247-8.

Emsworth opener Clive Pailin (61) was easily his side’s top scorer.

Earlier, opener Joe Andrews had struck 12 fours in his 73 before he fell to Sagar Desai (4-39).

Skipper Tom Lawler had three sixes in his 37, while No 7 Alec Dyer was unbeaten on 40 with three fours and two sixes.
