Kooner-Evans stars as Portsmouth progress in low-scoring Southern Premier League T20 Cup win at Bournemouth

Joseph Kooner-Evans returned remarkable figures as Portsmouth defeated Bournemouth in a low-scoring Southern Premier League T20 Cup tie.

The opening bowler took 3-2 off four overs - three of them maidens - as the hosts were tied down to 61-8 off their 20 overs at Chapel Gate.

Kooner-Evans had opener Ryan Van Der Vyer caught by Hemanshu Hirani for a duck before Adam Davies was caught by Henry Woolfe for three.

And Bournemouth were 10-3 when captain James Christian caught Luke Matthews (5) off Kooner-Evans.

Bournemouth lurched to 39-7 en route to a 60-run defeat.

Portsmouth had also struggled early on in their innings against Ollie Breckon.

Will Smitherman and Jack Marston were both out for just a single as the visitors slumped to 9-2.

Breckon went on to bag 5-22 off his four overs, but Dan Wallis came in at No 6 and top scored with 38 as Portsmouth reached 120-8 - helped by 14 wides.

Dominic Kelly took 4-12 off four overs as Hampshire Academy defeated Purbrook by 61 runs.

Purbrook, chasing 181 for victory, slumped from 100-3 to 104-7 with Kelly taking three of the wickets.

The hosts ended on 119-7 with opener Martin Lee top scoring with 38 before he was run out.

Skipper Josh McCoy hit 29 while Clark Harding hit two sixes in his 21-ball 28 not out.

Earlier, Charlie Mumford and Fletcha Middleton both scored 38 in the Academy’s 180-5 total.

Gosport Borough failed to pull off a T20 Cup upset at top flight Lymington.

The visitors posted 129-7 and were beaten by four wickets with 10 balls remaining.

Ollie Creal top scored for Gosport with 40 before he became one of Gareth Schreuder’s four stumpings.

Three of those were off the bowling of Josh Bailey, who ended with 3-13 from his four overs.

Gosport skipper Lee Harrop was next highest with 33 before he was run out.

South African Schreuder was in early at No 3 when Lymington replied after Harrop had run out Ryan Scott.

Schreuder top scored with 37, with Josh Proctor adding 22 off 15 balls as Lymington - helped by 15 wides - took their place in the second round.

Xavier Bochereau completed a fine weekend by helping Alton hammer Portsmouth & Southsea.

A day earlier, Bochereau had bagged 4-35 as Alton defeated Portsmouth by 112 runs in the Southern Premier League Premier/Division 1 East cup group.

This time he took 3-13 off four overs as P & S were restricted to just 90-8 off their 20 overs.

Their innings began badly when skipper Jack Davies was dismissed for a duck - leg before to Jack Myers - and things didn’t improve much after that.

Matt Benfield (26) and Ollie Kanavan (23) top scored, while keeper Mark Heffernan snaffled three catches and a stumping.

In reply, Jono Willey (2-19) dismissed openers Tom South and Dan Harris, but skipper Scot Myers (36 not out) and Mike Heffernan (27 not out) saw Alton to an eight-wicket win with over nine overs in hand.

Havant have been given a bye through to the second round of the T20 Cup.

They were drawn against Liphook & Ripsley, but instead the latter will be playing in the National Village Cup this Sunday - the date the two teams were due to meet at Havant Park.

Waterlooville travel to New Milton for their first round tie this Sunday.
