AFC Wimbledon v Portsmouth: Away-day guide

The Cherry Red Records Stadium (Jack Goodchild Way, 422A Kingston Road, Kingston upon Thames, KT1 3PB) will play host to the travelling Fratton faithful.

But with the Dons' stadium having a capacity of around 5,000, tickets are at a premium for those Blues supporters wanting to attend.

Those lucky enough to get their hands on a match ticket will mostly be in the partly-covered Rygas Stand terrace on one side of the pitch, with a few seats allocated in the John Green Stand behind one of the goals.

AFC Wimbledon is still a fan-owned club, rebuilt by the fans from the ashes of the original Wimbledon Football Club's enforced franchise move to Milton Keynes.

Note, there will be no away tickets on sale on the day.

GETTING THERE

Take the A3(M) northbound and continue north up the A3 towards London, passing over the junction with the M25.

Take the exit for New Malden/Worcester Park and then take the A2043 left turn into Malden Road towards Kingston.

Follow this road to the next roundabout and take the first exit into Kingston Road (A2043 still).

The ground is about one mile along, on the left, behind some shops.

PARKING

There is a free car park at the ground, allocated on a first-come, first-served basis which will fill up well before kick off.

Alternatively, there is street parking in the nearby residential areas.

There are some parking spaces reserved for disabled fans.

However, these will also fill up near kick off and space is not guaranteed.

FROM THE STATION

The nearest railway station to the ground is Norbiton.

Trains run regularly to Norbiton from Clapham Junction.

Trains from Portsmouth to London Victoria, and the slow, stopping trains to London Waterloo will stop at Clapham Junction.

Norbiton station is about 15 minutes walk to the ground.

Leave the station via the back exit, ie on the westbound platform, (which you will arrive at from Clapham), and take the first left into Norbiton Avenue.

At the end of the avenue, turn right into Gloucester Road and at the end of Gloucester Road turn left into Cambridge Road.

The main entrance to the ground is about 400 yards down on the right.

You will find the club shop there and there is usually a vendor selling a large selection of football badges.

The away fans' entrance is a little further along the main road, past the main entrance, on the right.

BY BUS

The 131 bus passes the ground and goes through both Kingston and New Malden town centres.

If you are in Kingston, catch a 131 to Tooting Broadway. if you are in New Malden, catch a 131 heading to Kingston.

EATING AND DRINKING

There is not much to be found near the ground and the big AFC Bar in the main Paul Strank Stand will not be open to Pompey fans, although you will find food kiosks outside in the car park.

The best option is to drink in New Malden or Kingston from where it is possible to get the 131 bus to the ground.

In New Malden there is a Wetherspoons pub (The Watchman, The High Street, New Malden, KT3 4ES).

In Kingston, the Willoughby Arms (Willoughby Road, KT2 6LN), is an old Victorian pub listed in the Good Beer Guide, serving a

selection of real ales. It also sells pizza.

In the main road outside the stadium you will find a chip shop and '˜Fat Boys Café'.
