Appy: Hodgson's the right man for England

Michael Appleton believes Roy Hodgson will be the ideal England manager.

Appleton thinks the time is right for Hodgson to take over the Three Lions, after the FA approached West Brom to make him their next national boss.

The Pompey manager worked closely with Hodgson until November in his role as Baggies first-team coach.

Appleton reckons his experience and nous makes him the ideal candidate.

He told Sky Sports: ‘I think he will make a very good England manager.

‘He’s had the experience from working as a national coach before working in the UAE, the Swiss side and the Finland team as well.

‘He certainly knows all the players, he has worked with the majority of players or if not with them then he has certainly worked against them with his teams over in England.

‘I think he is obviously at the right age in terms of the end of his career, in terms of working with teams and management from day-to-day.

‘I think he will be ideal.’
