And in a further boost to boss Alex Pike’s National League South hopes next season, Dan Wooden has decided to remain at the club.

Twenty-seven-year-old left-back Bird has signed a two-year deal, after two impressive seasons at The Camrose.

His former clubs include Fleet Town, Kingstonian, Carshalton Athletic, Hayes & Yeading United and Met Police.

Bird joins former team-mate, striker Chris Flood, in swapping Basingstoke for Gosport.

Pike has been busy to date rebuilding his side for the season ahead.

This week Borough also announced the signing of front man Jason Parish, from Wessex League premier division AFC Portchester.

Goalkeeper Martin Rice arrived earlier this month from Truro City.

Confirming he would be staying, after previously stating his intention to leave the club, Wooden claimed he had since performed a ‘boomerang’ act.

Speaking via his account on Twitter, Wooden said: ‘After speaking to pikey an cats the last few days I have decided to stay and be part of the stable but exciting times @GosportBoroFC in the future.

‘Never wanted to leave but didn’t want to be in the situation as last season which I’m pleased isn’t going to be the case!

‘Hopefully the fans will forgive the BOOMERANG and look forward to successful times ahead @GosportBoroFC.’
