A goal in the first 120 seconds from on-loan Juventus striker Vincent Pericard was the difference at Nyewood Lane.

Harry Redknapp named a second-string side containing several triallists for the encounter with the Rocks.

They included Ibrahima Sonko and Dries Boussatta, as well as out-of-favour players such as Yoshi Kawaguchi, Scott Hiley and Uliano Courville.

But Pericard – who would go on to enjoy an impressive season during Pompey’s Division One title triumph – netted the only goal.

Newly-appointed Pompey boss Andy Awford oversaw an impressive display against the Rocks.

In their second pre-season outing, the visitors were ruthless in a 6-1 thumping of their non-league hosts.

Permanent recruit Danny Hollands and loanee Miles Storey got themselves on the scoresheet on a glorious Saturday afternoon.

Ryan Taylor, Bradley Tarbuck, Andy Barcham and Jed Wallace completed the rout.

The Rocks set out to give Paul Cook and his troops a stiff pre-season test and did exactly that – holding Pompey to a 1-1 draw at Nyewood Lane.

The Blues grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and enjoyed plenty of early possession, with Matt Tubbs netting in the ninth minute.

But the Rocks found an equaliser after the break through former Pompey Academy striker Alfie Rutherford.

The Blues weren’t able to restore their lead, despite a flurry of chances, as the game finished 1-1.
