Borough defender off to the Lebanon

Eastbourne Borough’s former Brighton & Hove Albion prospect Sonny Cobbs is looking to kick-start his career with a spell in the Lebanon.

The 22-year-old last played for Borough in the side’s 3v1 defeat at the hands of Chelmsford City after early featuring in the Sussex Senior Cup Final defeat to the Albion – the first ever game at The Amex Stadium.

Now though the versatile defender – of whom big things were expected at the Albion – is trying his luck in the unlikely football outpost of Lebanon.

Eastbourne manager Gary Wilson confirmed, “Sonny has played a few games over there and I hear it went well. We need to speak to his agent and find out what’s going on.”

Cobbs would be the second Eastbourne player to depart for warmer climates after fellow former Brighton youngster James Smith left to join a US college side in the close season.
