Dave Carter is hoping Moneyfields can benefit from a weekend off as they open their Southern League Division One South campaign against Melksham at Dover Road (7.45pm) on Tuesday.

'After our tough FA Cup tie at Aylesbury I gave the players the rest of the week off,' said Carter.

'We didn't have a game at the weekend so hopefully we will be fresh coming into the Melksham game.

'It was a long 10 to 12-week pre-season so it was good to have a rest.

'Melksham will be tough as I expect them to be up there challenging at the top come the end of the season.

'If we play like we did at Aylesbury then we will have every chance of getting the result we want.'

Carter will be hoping to avoid a repeat of their roller-coaster game at Melksham last October.

In that game Moneyfields went a goal up before finding themselves 4-1 down at the break.

Carter won't mind a repeat of the result, however, as his team hit back for a startling 6-4 success.

Both teams lost their opening league games and will be keen to post their first points on the board.

'Hopefully we will be revitalised and re-energised after our rest,' said Carter, who expects to have a full squad to choose from apart from Tyler Giddings (knee).
