The Blues go into that game buoyed by a 2-0 win against Accrington on Saturday.

The victory saw Cook side’s move up to sixth in the table and close the gap on third-placed Carlisle (52) to four points, with a game in hand on both the Cumbrians and Rovers,

With Pompey having 17 games left this season, Cook believes there are plenty of points to play for.

And despite Doncaster and the Pilgrims showing no signs of letting up in their pursuit of the League Two title, the Blues boss believes anything is still possible.

‘The points will be what they are at the end, you can’t disguise it,’ said Cook during his press briefing today ahead of the Blackpool game.

‘What the current top two have done has been fantastic.

‘Great credit to both clubs, Doncaster to Plymouth, for continually knocking wins out that sees them open the gap that looks a strong gap.

‘From my knowledge of football, the gap still isn’t home and hosed.

‘No-one is. There’s 17 games to go and people don’t realise it’s such a lot of points to play for.

‘You go and have a bad week, i.e. draw one, lose two, and someone else around you goes and wins three - in a heartbeat that’s eight points gone.

‘It can happen in this league and it can happen to any team.

‘You’ve got to focus on the next game and be as positive as you can be.’
