Cook’s men showed superb character as they responded to last weekend’s tremendously disappointing display against Crewe.

And Pompey boss was delighted.

He said: ‘We really haven’t lost many away from home. We are doing okay and if we can just do a bit better quickly it won’t half help.

‘Saturday night everybody thinks Plymouth have sailed away but tonight they have lost 3-0 so they haven’t. Three days in this is a long time.

‘There is so much to play for for everyone and we are in the thick of it.

‘Tonight we were under massive pressure as a team, what would defeat have done for us as a club?

‘It would give all the chasing ones that we are going to buckle and go under, the fans would have had massive disappointment - but we haven’t.’
