The Blues suffered a 3-0 loss at the Lamex Stadium this afternoon, to bring an end to a three-match winning run.

Goals from Jack King and Matt Godden gave in-form Stevange a half-time lead, with Jobi McAnuff adding a third 41 seconds into the second half.

Pompey hit the bar twice, substitute Conor Chaplin missed a penalty and Christian Burgess was sent off 15 minutes from time on a miserable day for the visitors.

Yet they remain in third place - and Cook was swift to give credit to the victors.

He said: ‘No arguments, Stevenage were excellent today, by far the better team, the result is what it is and we wish them well for the rest of the season.

‘It was nothing to do with Naismith and Bennett, we are a strong club and a strong squad, it wasn’t our day today.

‘I am sure Darren will take great pride in how his team played.

‘It wasn’t a good day, Stevenage deserve all the plaudits.’
