Coventry v Portsmouth: away-day guide

The stadium is located on Judds Lane, Foleshill, Coventry (CV6 6GE), and has a capacity of 32,609.

Pompey fans will be located in the South Stand behind one goal '“ towards the corner with the West Stand.

The angle of the stand is quite steep and there is a track around the pitch which can lead to some viewing difficulties.

When you enter the stadium, the green light to show your ticket has been validated and you can enter will be above your head, which can cause confusion if you don't see it.

Getting there by car

From the M1 join the M6 at the Catthorpe Interchange (Junction 19).

Leave the M6 at Junction 3 and take the A444 south towards Coventry city centre.

After about a mile you will see the stadium on your left.

Car parking

Parking at the stadium is mostly for permit holders but you will find parking in a number of car parks within walking distance in places like factory units and schools at a charge of £3 to £5.

There is also a private car park run by Leisure Ireland, located a few minutes drive from Junction 3 of the M6.

It has 200 spaces and is then a 15-minute walk away from the stadium.

Follow the '˜pink arrow' signs and take the B4113 towards Bedworth, but be warned, to get to the stadium you have to cross a busy dual carriageway.

There is no vehicle height restriction at the car park.

Fans are encouraged to pre-book their parking place online (ricoharenaparking.co.uk/football/events/oct-18/coventry-city-v-portsmouth).

At the nearby Tesco and Arena retail park, free parking is restricted to two hours with a fine of £100 for exceeding that time.

There are also residents-only parking restrictions within about a mile of the Ricoh on match-days.

From the station

Trains run regularly to Coventry from London Euston and take 60 to 90 minutes.

However, although you could get back to London after the match, you will not be able to get back to Portsmouth until the next morning.

Coventry station is about three-and-a-half miles from the stadium, so it is best to grab a taxi to get to the ground.

Although Coventry Arena station next to the Ricoh is now open and the journey from Coventry station only takes seven minutes, there is a limited service of only one train an hour.

There are no special trains laid on for match-days.

Eating and drinking

On past visits the Grosvenor Casino on one corner of the stadium has admitted away fans and serves food, as well as having bars inside.

It operates a strict over-18s policy so is not suitable for families.

The Bull and Anchor (233 Wheelwright Lane, Ash Green, Coventr,y CV7 9HN) is a family-friendly Hungry Horse pub serving food, situated round the corner from the Ricoh.

At the Arena Shopping Centre, about 10 minutes walk from the ground, the large Tesco has a café and there is also a Pizza Hut, Frankie & Benny's and Burger King.

There are usually a couple of mobile outlets selling hot food, too.

Flags and banners

Coventry City allow flags in the away end.

They must be smaller than 250cm at the widest or longest point.

Any attached flag pole must be made of wood or plastic and be no longer than one metre in length or one cm in diameter.
