'Formidable' Paulsgrove strike force now even stronger as they get set for season restart

Manager Wayne Grant recruited Harvest Home's top scorer Jake Daniels during the month-long season suspension while joint leading scorer Danny Lane has now recovered from a broken wrist.

Paulsgrove had netted 42 times in nine outings in all competitions when their Hampshire Premier League Senior Division campaign was halted last month.

More than half of those (24) had come from joint leading scorers Lane and Zack Willett who have both bagged 12.

Summer signing Shane Cornish has also chipped in with five this term while Daniels arrives having struck eight goals for Harvest Home.

Boss Grant, understandably, is excited by the strikeforce he's assembled and is hoping for Paulsgrove to continue their free-scoring.

‘Danny Lane is raring to go again now after his broken wrist so we’re near enough full strength,’ said Grant.

‘Now, bringing Jake Daniels in, who was Harvest Home’s top scorer, added to our firepower with Jake, Shane Cornish, Danny and Zak Willett, it's quite a formidable strikeforce we’ve got.

‘I’d be disappointed if we didn’t (have goals in the team). It doesn’t always pan out like that.'

Paulsgrove's first fixture back after the enforced break is a league trip to strugglers Chamberlayne tomorrow.

The Grove were undefeated when the campaign was brought to a halt last month - winning eight of their nine matches in all competitions.

But Grant admitted they could find it difficult to pick up the momentum they had following the stoppage.

And he is warning his team not to underestimate Chamberlayne - particular as his side go into it without even having trained in more than a month.

‘I think it’s going to be hard (picking up the momentum),’ added the Paulsgrove boss.

‘It’s like starting pre-season again, obviously, the momentum will come to a little bit of a halt.

'It’s been a long time.

‘We don’t know what they’ve done in the break, they could have strengthened.

‘They’re coming in fresh and we’re coming in fresh as well. Every game for everyone this week is going to be a potential banana skin.’
