The 10-man Reds, playing a competitive fixture for the first time since December 12, were beaten 5-2 in their third round encounter in Devon as they missed the chance to reach the last-32 of the competition for the first time.

Fareham had Garry Moody shown a straight red card just after the half-hour mark before Ryan Reynolds' quickfire double prior to half time and Mikey Williams' effort fired Parkway 3-0 ahead in the tie which was played on a 3G surface at the Devon FA's HQ.

However, substitute Gary Austin struck twice in quick succession to give the visitors a glimmer of hope.

But Billy Palfrey and Craig Veal ensured it was five-star Plymouth who made it through to round four.

An already incredibly tough task was made even harder for Fareham when Moody was brandished a straight red card on 32 minutes following his lunge on Matt Wright.

The Reds' resistance was then broken five minutes before the break as Richards struck from the spot. Things then got worse for the visitors on 43 minutes with Richards grabbing his second goal of the match.

When Williams made it 3-0 just after the hour mark it appeared Fareham would limp out of the FA Vase.

Yet, just minutes after his introduction, substitute Austin bagged a quickfire double to set up a thrilling final 20 minutes.

But Plymouth Parkway regained their focus, with strikes from Palfrey and Veal in the closing stages wrapping up a 5-2 third round triumph.
