Horndean secure semi-final spot at the expense of US Portsmouth - Baffins Milton Rovers' Wessex League Cup defence ended

Michael Birmingham's Wessex League Premier Division side wrapped up a 5-2 quarter-final victory at Burnaby Road in what was a thrilling cup tie.

Alfie Lis and Connor Duffin netted inside the opening 26 minutes as the Deans appeared to be easing into the last four.

But Glenn Turbull's troops, who top the Wessex League Division 1, pulled a goal back through George Root nine minutes before the break.

USP were then back on terms on 66 minutes when Elliott Turnbull struck.

However, Horndean regrouped and and three goals in an 11-minute spell from Greg Peel, Ben Anderson and Fuzz Kanjanda took the visitors through.

n Baffins Milton Rovers' bid to retain the Wessex League Cup were ended after a 3-2 quarter-final defeat at AFC Stoneham.

Steve Leigh's side conceded twice in the opening 18 minutes before Tommy Tierney pulled one back just after the half-hour mark.

Ashton Leigh levelled the scores on 58 minutes but Stoneham grabbed what proved to be the winning goal just three minutes later.

Baffins' boss Steve Leigh was left frustrated by his team's showing.

‘We didn't start well and gifted them a two-goal lead,’ he said.

‘It wasn't until we pulled a goal back that we finally came to life.

‘In the second half we dominated the game and after the equaliser, looked the team most likely to win it.

‘Then another individual error gave them the winner.

‘We can and must do a lot better.’
