Havant & Waterlooville leave it late to beat Hampton & Richmond

TWO late goals earned the Hawks a hard-fought 2-0 National League South win against Hampton & Richmond Borough at Westleigh Park.

Wes Fogden broke the deadlock on 77 minutes and Jonah Ayunga sealed the win four minutes from the end.

There was one change in the home starting line-up from Tuesday’s win at Billericay.

Chris Paul replaced Nicky Bailey, who dropped to the substitutes’ bench, while striker Danny Kedwell was sitting out the second game of his three-match suspension.

The visitors showed an early threat when Jake Gray sped down the left and his low cross was deflected across the face of goal.

A slip by Craig Robson allowed Gray in again and his near post shot was blocked.

In the opening 11 minutes the Beavers looked the more switched on of the two sides.

Benny Read had the hosts’ first chance when he fired in a low shot which a defender kept out with his legs.

On 24 minutes it took a good save from the visiting goalkeeper to deny the Hawks.

A long free-kick was headed nodded on by Robson and Dean Beckwith's close-range header was palmed aroun the post.

Jonah Ayunga produced a lovely bit of close control on the bye-line but his low ball was cut out.

Six minutes before the break home stopper Ross Worner had to make a low save to keep out a low drive from Gray.

Alfie Rutherford and Bailey replaced Chris Paul and Bedsente Gomis at the start of the second half.

On 62 minutes Rutherford went within a whisker of breaking the deadlock.

Fogden picked him out with a great through ball but the striker’s low shot flashed past the far post.

The Hawks made the all important breakthrough on 77 minutes when FOGDEN hammered his shot into the far corner of the net.

Four minutes from the end AYUNGA slipped in and made no mistake from inside the area to wrap up the victory.
