It’s ‘make or break time’ for Gosport in bid to make Southern Premier League South play-offs

Lee Molyneaux surveyed Gosport Borough's next two Southern League Premier Division South fixtures and stressed: It's make or break time.

Borough travel to second-from-bottom Beaconsfield Town on Saturday and are at basement boys Dorchester Town the following weekend.

Molyneaux's men remain in with an outside chance of getting into the play-offs.

They sit eighth with 10 games to go, eight points off fifth-placed Hayes & Yeading having played a game more.

But Molyneaux insisted his side can wave goodbye to any hopes of the play-offs should they fail to take maximum points from their next two matches.

'We have often struggled against teams lower in the league for one reason or another,' said the Gosport boss, whose team were held at home by both Beaconsfield (0-0) and Dorchester (4-4) before Christmas.

‘It’s by no means a given.

‘But we’ll go into the game confident with only two injuries.

‘I have got a lot of options and a lot of decisions to make.

‘The players know it’s make or break time, the pressure is on.’

Borough head into two crunch fixtures having won just one of their past three league outings.

Given Gosport's patchy form, Molyneaux feels his troops should just take each game as it comes.

‘I think when I took the job, obviously my first managerial job, I over-analysed and looked into too many statistics and looked too far ahead,’ he remarked.

‘We just need to concentrate on the here and now.

‘That’s something I’ve learnt quite quickly in football - to take each game as it comes.'

Liam Robinson (groin) is a doubt for the trip to Beaconsfield – who thrashed promotion-chasing Tiverton 4-0 in midweek – while goalkeeper Pat O'Flaherty (ankle) remains sidelined.
