Maidenhead v Portsmouth: Away-day guide

The Magpies' ground (York Road, Maidenhead SL6 1SF,) has a capacity of 4,000 and most Blues fans will be in the partly-covered Bell Street End terrace.

A few seats have been allocated in covered seating.

York Road is officially acknowledged as the oldest, continually used football ground in the world, having seen the first game played there in 1871. (There are older grounds but not used continually by one club).

Please note Pompey's ticket allocation has sold out, there will will be no tickets on sale on the day.

The match is being televised on BT Sport.

Getting there '“ by road

Leave the M4 at Junction 8 and take the A404(M).

At the end of the A404(M) take the A4 Bath Road towards Maidenhead.

On reaching the town centre you will come to a large roundabout.

Bear left (2nd exit) continuing on the A4.

Go straight across the first roundabout and at the second turn right into Forlease Road and then the second right into York Road.

The ground entrance is down on the left.

Parking

There is no parking at the ground itself, but there are plenty of pay and display car parks dotted around the nearby town centre, including a multi storey at Nicholsons Shopping Centre on Broadway.

There is a small car park located across the road from the ground but please note this has a maximum stay of only two hours.

By Train

The journey from Portsmouth to Maidenhead will take about two-and-a-half hours and will require a change at Guildford and Reading.

Please note that South Western Railways has industrial action scheduled for the same day which could affect your journey from Portsmouth to Guildford.

Maidenhead station is located less than half a mile from York Road and is only a five-minute walk from the Bell Street entrance.

As you come out of the station entrance turn right and walk up to the main road at the end of the car park.

Turn left along this road and cross over to the other side using the nearby pedestrian crossing.

Keeping the Bell pub on your right, turn right into Queen Street and then the next right hand turn into York Road.

The entrance to the ground is further down on the right.

After the match you can get back to the station quicker by using the exit behind the Bell Street away end.

This leads into Bell Street and then directly on to the station.

Where to eat and drink

In Maidenhead town centre there is a selection of pubs, including a Wetherspoons (The Bear, High Street, Maidenhead, SL6 1QJ) which serves the usual range of beer and food.

Not far from the station is The Bell (King Street, Maidenhead SL6 1DP) which serves food and has televised sport.

If you are into real ale and have plenty of time, try The Craufurd Arms, about a mile from the ground at 15 Gringer Hill, Maidenhead, SL6 7LY.

It's a small, community-owned CAMRA award-winning pub that welcomes away fans.

Inside the ground there is a selection of pies, burgers, sausage rolls and chips.
