The on-loan striker netted his ninth Blues goal in Saturday’s 2-1 triumph, rifling home a finish four minutes from half-time.

Adam Webster netted after the break before Luke Berry’s consolation gave the scoreline an unrealistic feel considering the hosts’ dominance.

The comfortable victory lifted Paul Cook’s side back into fifth place in League Two at the end of a disappointing week.

And McNulty acknowledged how crucial the positive result was.

He said: ‘It was a very important win, there is no doubt about that.

‘The gaffer told the boys before the game “Three points, nothing less”.

‘After the Barnet game the fans were obviously upset and I feel their frustration.

‘It is hard to take as a supporter because you want to see your team win every week, but unfortunately that cannot happen.

‘I can guarantee that when we get beat it hurts the boys just as much as it hurts the fans, but the majority stick behind us every week.

‘Since I have been down here the fans have been unbelievable home and away, so when you play badly and don’t get results you can take that sort of stick. Some of the fans were unhappy after Barnet.

‘There has been a bit of pressure on the boys for the last few weeks, it’s a case of you have to win, you have to win, you have to win.

‘But a lot of people actually forget the amount of points still to play for.

‘There are a lot of games left.

‘You win three or four games in a row and who knows where you can end up.’
