The Southern League Division 1 South club ended up receiving more applications for the role than they were expecting.

From those, chairman Pete Seiden and his board have created a five-man shortlist.

Two have already been interviewed with the remaining three to be quizzed next week.

The original plan was to have made a decision by tomorrow (Friday) but Seiden said: ‘There’s no desperate rush.’

Moneys are searching for only their third manager since 2003 following Dave Carter’s decision to step back down into the Wessex League earlier this month to join AFC Portchester.

Elsewhere at the club, work is due to start on the £2.5m redevelopment of Moneys’ Dover Road facilities next month.

‘I’m meeting the builders next Monday,’ said Seiden, ‘and hopefully the clubhouse will be coming down soon and then they can start putting the new road in.

‘Hopefully we’ll have a new manager in soon and things can start getting back to something like normal again.’

Though Moneys’ league season is now over, the two pitches at Dover Road will be used again come April.

That’s because the club’s youth teams and veterans sides are allowed to restart their competitive seasons from the end of next month.

Seiden said: ‘We’ve carried on doing pitch work because theoretically, until Wednesday, we could have needed it for the first team.

‘You could play a game on it today.

‘We could hold cup finals in April or May but we won’t have any bar facilities.’
