The 28-year-old midfielder sealed a speedy arrival at Fratton Park from Northampton after being won over by the Fratton faithful.

Rose lifted the League Two title with the Cobblers last term but had his mind made up to join the Blues after experiencing the incredible atmosphere during his side’s 2-1 win on the final day of the season.

He said: ‘It was a move that happened quite quickly really.

‘As soon as the call was made and the interest was there, after speaking to the manager it was one that I wanted to happen.

‘The thing that sticks with me the most is the last game of the season when we played there with Northampton.

‘Even for a game which at that point for Portsmouth and its fans didn’t have much riding on it, with regards to their league positions, the atmosphere was incredible.

‘That was something that stuck with me.

‘And once the interest was there, it was an opportunity I could not turn down.’
