And as his Posh side prepare to welcome Kenny Jackett's troops to London Road on Saturday for a top-of-the-table clash, he confessed he will have his worked cut out trying to stay with the Blues and fellow promotion contenders Sunderland and Barnsley over the course of the season.

Pompey go into tomorrow's game second in the table '“ two points adrift of leaders Peterborough.

Both boost unbeaten records, with the Posh holding an edge following one more win from their seven games played.

But Evans believes the Blues '“  who he regards as a Premier League club '“ along with the Black Cats and the Tykes will soon be out on their own competing for the automatic promotion places.

Speaking to ThePoshTV, he said: 'They (Pompey) are a fantastic club, they're Premier League written all over it all day.

'And I think Kenny went in there with the task of taking them back to that kind of level.

'They've got good players, an outstanding manager and an assistant as well, so our task and test on Saturday is a real tough one.

'I think I said it, anyone who can finish above or near Sunderland, anyone near or above Portsmouth or Barnsley, I think they're the three clubs I'm looking at and saying, wow, they're expected to be up there '“ and they will be up there.

'So we've got the try and hang in and stay around them.'
