Pompey boss toasts Hatters high

The Blues registered one of their finest away performances of the Cook era to fight back from falling behind to win 3-1 tonight.

Danny Hylton opened the scoring for Luton and also had another ruled out for offside before Michael Smith levelled.

Gareth Evans then handed the Blues the lead in stoppage-time at the end of a breathless first half.

After the break, the visitors were comfortable, with Christian Burgess striking the bar and then substitute Kal Naismith sealing the victory six minutes from time.

And Cook was rightly delighted as Pompey moved into fourth spot.

He said: ‘I have great faith in the players and it becomes like a presidential campaign.

‘We are going up, we are not. We are good, we are bad. The reality is in 46 games we will have highs and lows – tonight is very much a high.

‘We played well and Luton took part in a great game for League Two with two very strong teams.

‘Any team which finishes above Luton this year will be promoted, that’s for sure.

‘We should not be waiting for teams to equalise, we have got to go and score again.

‘We hit the bar and looked aggressive with our set-pieces.

‘It was a good night for us and I am really pleased for the players.’
