Saturday saw the North stand unveiling of a Wall of Fame listing the Pompey Supporters’ Trust’s 2,460 shareholders and the club’s 16 presidents.

The project was funded by Trust board member and club president Eric Coleborn, with a sizeable crowd attending the ceremony before the visit of Hartlepool.

And Coleborn paid tribute to those who made it possible.

He said: ‘This is a great football club because of the supporters.

‘A club is only as good as its fans and we have the greatest fans in the world, this could never have happened at any other club. The bottom line is there has never, ever been a club anywhere near this size being taken over by the fans before.

‘It is not about supporting the Manchester Uniteds or Liverpools who win every week and if you don’t win the Premier League you have failed, that’s not passionate support.

‘True supporters support when their club is in trouble and going to go down. And there is no greater support than this happening when we were down and out.’
