Pompey v Bournemouth: friendlies revisited

Pompey have announced a summer encounter with Bournemouth, representing what has become a familiar pre-season fixture.

Meanwhile, Fratton Park has hosted Eddie Howe’s team in three of the past four pre-seasons.

Alan McLoughlin’s benefit match was attended by 5,153 supporters and they were treated to six goals.

The hosts twice led, with Gary Roberts and Michael Smith getting themselves on the scoresheet. However, they were indebted to Adam May’s late leveller for a 3-3 draw.

Andy Awford’s side rallied but still couldn’t avoid defeat in their final pre-season friendly of 2014.

Goals from Tokelo Rantie, Brett Pitman and Harry Arter saw the Blues 3-0 down at the interval, before a stunning James Dunne volley and Jed Wallace’s penalty reduced the deficit.

The FA Cup holders sent a strong side to Dean Court and ran out comfortable winners.

Sulley Muntari, new signing Peter Crouch (2) and Jermain Defoe netted for Harry Redknapp’s side, which also included Sol Campbell, Hermann Hreidarsson and Pedro Mendes.

Fresh from lifting the Barclays Asia Trophy, the Blues ran out 4-1 winners, with Lualua shortly afterwards moving to Olympiacos.
