The Blues sit at the top of the table after 17 games, although will be leapfrogged by Sunderland if they defeat Wycombe on Saturday.

Kenny Jackett's side have outlined their credentials to clinch the silverware, and the race is sure to heat up as the campaign progresses.

But there is also an exciting side plot in the Fratton Park dressing room for an individual accolade.

The clash to finish as the Blues' leading goalscorer this season is wide open, with five players realistically having a chance of clinching the club's golden boot.

Last campaign was more straightforward.

Brett Pitman ran away with the prize, netting 25 goals in all competitions during his maiden Pompey season.

Not another member of Kenny Jackett's squad reached double figures.

The skipper has been on the periphery of things this season, however.

Goalscoring responsibilities have mainly been taken up by Jamal Lowe, Oli Hawkins, Ronan Curtis and Gareth Evans.

That quartet will be eyeing Pitman's crown, although he won't go down without a fight.

And The Betting Room, Southsea, have priced the odds on who they believe could finish as the Blues' leading marksman this campaign.

Hawkins is the current 7/4 favourite to clinch the gong.

The former Dagenham & Redbridge hitman has become Jackett's attacking focal point this term, dislodging Pitman from his striking duties.

He amassed eight goals last season and looks certain to surpass that total.

The 26-year-old has already netted six times to date '“ with five of those coming in his past six appearances.

Lowe is the second favourite to finish at the summit of Pompey's scoring charts, priced at 5/2.

The ex-Hampton & Richmond winger continues his hurtling progress and is currently ahead in the goalscoring stakes.

His effort in Saturday's 4-0 FA Cup first-round win over Maidenhead was his seventh of the campaign.

Lowe has already matched his tally from last term and is showing no signs of downing tools.

Pitman may have only started six matches this campaign, but has still registered four times.

The Betting Room have taken into account the former AFC Bournemouth's exploits last term, despite him falling down the pecking order.

He's 3/1 to retain his golden boot.

Along with Hawkins, Ronan Curtis and Gareth Evans are also tied on six efforts apiece.

Curtis has been a revelation since his arrival from Derry City for an undisclosed fee in June.

Along with his goals, he's created seven and has been key for Jackett's side.

Curtis '“ currently away on Ireland international duty '“ hasn't bagged in six games, though, and is a 13/2 shot to finish as top scorer.

The outsider of the quintet is Evans '“ although some of the Fratton faithful may be surprised by his price.

The forward is 12/1 to clinch the award.

Evans has been in superb form operating in the number 10 role and has insisted he's gunning for the accolade.

Note: The Betting Room have priced up the odds but are not currently taking bets on the market.Â
