Portsmouth boss targets Checkatrade Trophy glory
Pompey boss Kenny Jackett is targeting Checkatrade Trophy glory.
The Blues manager is keen for his players to '˜go all the way' in the much-maligned competition as he prepares to take his side to Crawley tomorrow night.
Pompey currently sit top of Southern Group A following a 4-0 victory over Gillingham in their opening game of the competition.
The trip to the Broadfield Stadium represents their second fixture, with a home tie against Spurs' under-21s to follow next month (November 13).
Last season, the Blues got to the third round, before suffering a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Chelsea Under-21s at Fratton Park.
Jackett would like to progress further this season, believing the chance to play at Wembley and experience a win at the home of English football to be a massive incentive for his players.
'I'm really looking forward to it.' said Jackett.
'˜We made a good start in the first game, we want to qualify, and if at all possible get through to the latter stages and try to go all the way.
'Obviously, a Wembley appearance is a good incentive for all of us and we'll try to get through if we can.'
Jackett admitted he will make changes to his starting XI for the trip to Sussex.
He sees the game as an ideal way for those on the fringes to stake a claim for a regular starting role.
Jackett added: 'Tomorrow night will be an opportunity for our fringe players, maybe the odd promising youngster coming through that we feel we need.
'˜You know, we have that type of squad at the moment and it will be very interesting to see these players play.'
