The Blues boss revealed there were reasoned discussions in the Blues dressing room as they suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat to struggling Gillingham.

Jackett took longer than usual to arrive for his media duties as players and staff gave their views following the loss.

The Pompey boss told how his team felt it was a day where little went for them, as they couldn't make their pressure tell against Steve Lovell's side.

Jackett was more critical, however, and felt the attacking shortcoming in his side could not be ignored.

That was evident as the Blues failed to register a goal from 18 shots, 14 corners and 57 per cent possession.

The squad highlighted the challenge now is to quickly get on another run to maintain the pace set by Pompey in League One.

And Jackett was in agreement it's about his team rebuilding moving forward.

He said: '˜The players are talking about going on another run, bouncing back and saying it wasn't necessarily quite our day.

'˜There's different viewpoints. I felt there were certain things we needed to do better. Full stop.

'˜We have to learn from that and in the next situation do better.

'˜It wasn't necessarily a mixed conversation, but in quite a short space of time after the game we did cover all bases.

'˜That was from how it was to how it will be in the future.

'˜After that, it was more importantly about how we do next week.

'˜But you can't sweep things under the carpet. You should learn to better, so it's a balance of the two.

'˜For us, we have to recognise if we're in that situation again we need to take more responsibility and do better.'

Jackett also highlighted the manner in which his players failed to utilise the Pompey crowd to their benefit against the struggling side.

Despite being 2-0 down at the interval the Blues support appeared to sense there was a way to get back into the game.

But Pompey failed to get the early goal after the break which would have really seen optimism grow.

Jackett added: '˜It's a great ground Fratton Park.

'˜When we're building tempo they feel the game can change and we can come back.

'˜That was on '“ and we're the ones who have to take responsibility and make it happen.'
