Former Watford and Stoke front man Gifton Noel-Williams has linked up with the Blues squad as a striker coach.

Kenny Jackett revealed the powerful former front man has been working with the club on an ongoing basis.

Pompey are one of League One’s top scorers, but have drawn a blank in the past two games.

Jackett feels Noel-Williams has much he can pass on to his team’s attacking players.

He said: ‘We have a centre-forward coach who has been in for quite a bit of this season - Gifton Noel-Williams.

‘He’s been at many clubs like Stoke in the Premier League and Watford before that.

‘He’s a centre forward himself, obviously, and he’s been working with our forwards for a matter of months now.

‘He’s coming in as things stand two mornings a week.

‘He does still work for the PFA though and has something like half a dozen clubs under his remit.

‘That’s where he’s been but he’s been coming in once or twice a week depending on the games we have.

‘He’s been specifically working with the forwards and has offered something to them.’

Noel-Williams has a long-standing link with Pompey and their players, as he offers assistance for those who are looking to undertake coaching courses.

That means he’s got to know the club’s younger talents as they break into the first-team set-up.

Jackett added: ‘In recent times he’s worked with the PFA, and has come down to our club over the past couple of years doing the coaching courses with the players.

‘If the senior players want to start their coaching process they mix in with the scholars and start their coaching.

‘That’s his full-time job doing that for the PFA and going round the clubs.

‘So he does know our younger players and has been working with them with their qualifications for a couple of years.’
