The ex-skipper had fallen well out of favour at the Blues and was twice frozen out by Kenny Jackett this campaign.

Pitman didn’t link up with his team-mates after they returned to training for the League One play-offs and was omitted from both squads as Pompey lost to Oxford on penalties in the sem-finals.

However, we could be seeing the 32-year-old back in action in the area sooner than we think – should he not return with a new club next term.

Pitman has offered his services to take part in a charity game at AFC Portchester stadium next year.

Organised by Blues fan Chris Underwood, all proceeds will go towards Great Ormond Street Hospital.

It takes place on Sunday, May 9 at the Crest Finance Stadium, having been switched from Petersfield’s Love Lane.

Pitman messaged Underwood via Instagram saying he’d love to play in the game should he be available.

As a result, it means the Fratton faithful could see a mouthwatering strike partnership that consists of Pompey’s two highest goalscorers in the past 22 years.

Pitman bagged 42 goals in 99 appearances in his three seasons at PO4, following his arrival from Ipswich in 2017.

In just more than two decades, only Yakubu has found the back of the net more for the Blues.

The Nigerian marksman has also agreed to take part in the clash – meaning a devastating duo could be forged.

Arriving from Maccabi Haifa midway through the 2002-03 season, Yakubu scored 43 times during his two-and-a-half years at Fratton Park before joining Middlesbrough for £7.5m in the summer of 2005.

In addition, Blues players of yesteryear who’ll also be involved include Paul Robinson, Lee Bradbury, Brian Howard and Rowan Vine.
