'A true club legend who bled blue' - Portsmouth skipper Marlon Pack pays glowing tribute to Alan Knight

Boyhood Pompey fan and skipper Marlon Pack has joined those who have been paying tribute to Alan Knight following passing at the age of 65.

Alan Knight has been called a ‘true club legend’ in a glowing tribute to the late former Pompey keeper by current Blues captain Marlon Pack.

He played 801 times for the club he joined as a teenager in the 1970s and represented with distinction for four decades.

Knightsie, as he was affectionately known, was also the second longest Pompey player of all time behind Jimmy Dickinson. In addition, he held the record for the most appearances for a single club by a goalkeeper.

Following his retirement in 2000, the one-time England under-21 international worked as a goalkeeping coach for the Fratton Park side and later as a club ambassador.

Understandably, tributes have been pouring in for a man also referred to as ‘Legend’ from former Pompey team-mates and work colleagues who had the privilege of getting to know him while he conducted media duties, including a weekly column in The News.

Now, current Blues skipper Pack has added his weight to the heartfelt eulogies that have emerged with his own homage to a man the entire Blues family felt a connection with.

Taking to social media, Pack wrote: ‘RIP Knightsie. A true club legend who bled blue.

‘A figure who has done so much for this football club and the wider community over so many years.

‘My thoughts and condolences go out to all of Alan's family and friends at this incredible sad time.’
