Alan Knight: Pompey release details of tribute to former goalkeeper at home game against Cardiff
Pompey fans will pay tribute to Alan Knight at Saturday’s match against Cardiff
Pompey have confirmed details of a tribute to The Legend Alan Knight at this weekend’s game.
The Blues are at home to Cardiff at 3pm on Saturday. Goalkeeper Knight, 65, who played 801 times for Pompey, including 683 league games, became an ambassador for the club after his retirement and was well-known around the city.

A club statement released on Friday said: “The Pompey family were left devastated by the news that club legend Alan Knight had passed away earlier this week.
“Saturday’s Championship game against Cardiff at Fratton Park gives us all a chance to pay tribute to someone who served the club with distinction for more than 50 years. At the request of Alan’s family, a minute’s silence will be observed just prior to kick-off and we would respectfully ask that all supporters are in their seats by 2.55pm.”
Wreaths will be laid on the pitch by members of the Knight family, as well as Pompey chief executive Andrew Cullen.
The matchday programme is being turned into a special tribute edition and will be on sale around the ground.
The club has also said there will be further tributes as part of the matchday show, which is broadcast live from Fratton Park on Pompey+. Fans can also sign the book of condolence in the Legends Lounge until 7pm on Friday or in the FanZone on Saturday.
Those who are unable to visit the stadium can instead click here to leave a message the online book of condolence.
Knight, who was born in south London, joined Pompey as a 14-year-old apprentice, and signed professional terms in 1977. He played for the club until the year 2000, becoming the only player to appear for Pompey in four different decades.
Current Pompey skipper Marlon Pack this week paid tribute, saying: “RIP Knightsie. A true club legend who bled blue. A figure who has done so much for this football club and the wider community over so many years. My thoughts and condolences go out to all of Alan's family and friends at this incredible sad time.”
