Kenny Jackett believes Cannon will return for duty this week, potentially putting him in the frame for Coventry and Shrewsbury (February 15).

However, the clash with the fourth-placed Sky Blues could be too soon for the 23-year-old.

Jackett said: ‘He has a problem with his glute, it’s not too bad, we hope either Tuesday or Saturday he will be back.

‘Andy’s had a scan to make sure there is no damage in there, he came off with it against Sunderland.

‘I know he didn’t want to come off, at the same time he was clutching the top of his hamstring, which kept him out this week.

‘I am pleased to say we came through it, but similarly it does look as though it is not going to be too bad and at some stage next week he’ll be back with us,

‘I don’t know how long he will be out for, to be honest with you. We’ll see on Monday, hopefully it clears up, if not Coventry then next Saturday.

‘We would want everybody fit and available, it’s really important.’

Ben Close was recalled for Cannon at Prenton Park, with Cameron McGeehan in a more advanced role.
