And judging by how Swans supporters have reacted, it should prove to be a shrewd bit of business by the Blues.

Byers has suffered his share of injuries and been limited to only one appearance for the south Wales outfit this season.

But he's well regarded at Swansea and scored five goals in 39 appearances as Steve Cooper’s side suffered Championship play-off semi-final defeat last season.

The Swans have ample cover in the engine room, allowing Byers to go out and get much-needed minutes under his belt.

And an overwhelming number of Swansea fans reckon he's far better than a League One player – and tipped him to be be a Pompey hit.

Here's what they’ve been saying on Twitter...

Way too good for League One

@vicdevine

A lot of the responses here seem to think it's a good move, get game time, etc. He's prob not automatic first choice now, but I'd have thought still an important squad player. Seems a bit odd to me.

@heymynamesjamie

Byers is going to be a baller in league one! Way to good for league one however needs game time after the long term injury

@hjj2907

Bit too good for league one tbh

@scfctheo

Wow that’s an amazing signing for Portsmouth. Makes perfect sense because he should play a lot of games which he needs after his injury and wouldn’t get here. Go and smash it, George

What a weird move, great signing for Portsmouth
