Birmingham left-back Steve Seddon: Extending Portsmouth stay a no-brainer

The left-back’s loan deal from Birmingham expired at the end of last month.

However, with the 2019-20 season set to be extended, the duration of the 22-year-old’s stay will increase in line, ensuring his ongoing availability.

Pompey are still in the frame for either automatic promotion or the play-offs, depending on how League One members vote as the wrangling continues.

And there’s plenty for Seddon to achieve during his remaining time at Fratton Park.

He said: ‘I signed on loan here until the end of the season and obviously with coronavirus that has now extended the season.

‘For me, nothing changes. I committed myself to Pompey to the end of the season and that is still the same, so for me it’s a no-brainer.

‘Why would I not want to finish off the season where I’ve had a great second half to it and we’ve still got a chance of promotion?

‘I don't think Birmingham had any interest in bringing me back and it wasn’t an option. It was a no-brainer for all parties.

‘It was a formality. Both clubs agreed to add my loan until the end of the season, so it was the formality getting the papers done with the EFL.’

Seddon has made 17 appearances and scored once since arriving from Birmingham in January.

And he has this week been at Pompey’s Copnor Road training ground as the players step up their fitness programme.

He added: ‘We’ve been doing individual groups, which has been really beneficial, while keeping in mind social distancing.

‘I have been down there this week and it’s good getting back in to see people. It has definitely been missed.’
