Brighton see Milwall target Jayson Molumby as 'part of their plans' and dent Portsmouth's hopes of landing Ben Thompson

Pompey’s hopes of landing Ben Thompson hinges, in part, on Millwall bringing in a replacement midfielder before tomorrow’s EFL transfer window deadline.

Brighton’s Jayson Molumby was seen as a player who would fit the bill, having enjoyed a successful loan spell at The Den last season.

The Republic of Ireland international, who played against the Blues in their Carabao Cup defeat at the Amex last month, had been tipped to rejoin the Lions again this season.

But any Lions move for the 21-year-old now looks unlikely, according to the South London Press’ Richard Cawley.

In a tweet this afternoon, he claims Molumby 'won't be rejoining Millwall on loan’ as ‘Brighton see him as part of their first-team plans’.

If true, that represents a huge blow in the Blues’ pursuit of Thompson, with Millwall having to look elsewhere now if they do chose to bolster their own midfield ranks.

All clubs have until 5pm tomorrow to bring in new players.
