Bristol City midfielder Sammie Szmodics joins Peterborough having previously been considered by Portsmouth

The Bristol City midfielder was under consideration by Pompey at the beginning of the January transfer window.

Szmodics joined the Robins from Colchester in the summer but failed to make a first-team breakthrough during the first half of the season.

He featured for just 107 minutes in the Championship, with manager Lee Johnson allowing to depart for regular football.

Kenny Jackett was weighing up a move for Szmodics after identifying the engine room as a key area that needed to be bolstered.

However, the Blues instead moved for Cameron McGeehan from Barnsley.

And Szmodics has subsequently joined Pompey’s League One promotion rivals Peterborough.
