The Blues’ League One promotion push has suffered a blow in their past two games, losing to rivals Hull and Lincoln.
With Pompey harbouring ambitions of a top-two finish, Kenny Jackett must find a way of delivering a result at an Addicks side also hoping to go up automatically.
The boss will be forced to make one change from the Lincoln defeat, with Jack Whatmough suspended for three games after receiving a red card.
But there could be temptation from Jackett to play some of his January recruits from the outset.
George Byers and Charlie Daniels both came off the bench against the Imps and there is growing clamour from sections of supporters for the pair to be given a chance.
Meanwhile, some fans also want to see Jordy Hiwula be given a crack after being left out of the past two squads.

1. Goalkeeper - Craig MacGillivray
The Scot very much remains No1 despite Lewis Ward's arrival. MacGillivray had a fine goal in the defeat against Lincoln and is showing his form of two seasons ago. Photo: PinPeP

2. Right-back - Callum Johnson
Was part of a resolute back four that almost yielded a result against Lincoln with 10 men. Johnson's undisputed first choice on the right-hand side of defence despite having James Bolton and Haji Mnoga for competition. Photo: Joe Pepler

3. Centre-back - Sean Raggett
The ex-Norwich man will shift onto the right-hand side in Jack Whatmough's absence. Will be in an aerial battle with Jayden Stockley. Photo: Graham Hunt

4. Centre-back - Rasmus Nicolaisen
The Dane has a big opportunity to stake his claim in Jack Whatmough's absence. Nicolaisen performed soundly off the bench against Lincoln but has found it difficult in physical battles at times. Photo: Graham Hunt
