Charlie Austin takes X-rated swipe at fans of Portsmouth's bitter rivals Southampton

The striker last night wrote in a post on Twitter – that’s now been deleted – that Southampton supporters ‘don’t sing to get behind the team’.

After bemoaning the negative impact of social media, some followers of the St Mary's outfit took exception, with one replying: ‘Didn't think when you insulted our whole fanbase and club did it tho chazza.’

Austin scored 20 goals in 81 appearances after arriving for £4m from QPR in 2015.

Yet the West Brom forward didn’t hold back with his retort and lambasted Southampton fans.

He claimed they don’t back their team when they need a lift in games.

Austin tweeted: ‘You’re s*** fans, you don’t sing to get behind the team only when they score never when they need a boost.’
