The veteran full-back has paid the price for poor performances of late, representing the only change to the side which lost at Swindon in the week.

Daniels’ absence curiously leaves the Blues without a recognised left-back in their starting XI.

There are suggestions Pompey could play with a back three, utilising Williams in the role against Joey Barton’s relegation-bound side.

The Australian stood in at left wing-back in the latter stages at the County Ground on Tuesday, despite being right footed.

Meanwhile, George Byers is recalled to the side to fill the spot vacated by Daniels’ absence.

Daniels drops to a bench which includes Alfie Stanley who has yet to make his Football League debut.

Pompey: MacGillivray, Raggett, Nicolaisen, Naylor, Johnson, Williams, Close, Byers, Curtis, Harness, Marquis.

Subs: Ward, Stanley, Downing, Bolton, Cannon, White, Daniels.
