It was the nadir of a bleak run of form, with the Blues losing six of their past eight matched and have dropped out of the League One play-off places.

Chief executive Mark Catlin is now tasked with finding the man capable of getting Pompey promoted with 13 league games remaining.

We’ve asked members of the Fratton faithful who they’d like to see take the PO4 hot seat.

Here’s what supporters have been saying...

If its not Wilder or Howe we lack ambition! Surely worth asking them both for an interview. I personally think both would be interested despite what some fans are saying salaries being out of our price range. These guys already have cash in the bank and i'm sure some juicy promotion bonuses can make up for a lower monthly wage!

Cowley shouldn’t be underestimated

Bowyer or Cowley personally. But isn't Eddie Howe also free at the moment?

Appleton for me.

None of the other names floating about are realistic (Howe, Wilder) or inspiring (Coleman, Harris).

Would have loved Moore before his love to Wednesday.

@coshamkev

I'd take Sean O'Driscoll short term and test Applelton's resolve. He's said he has unfinished business here in the past. Now would be the time or never.

The early candidates in the frame to replace Kenny Jackett as Portsmouth boss

@rogerbauchamp

I would have thought Chris Wilder was the obvious and only choice. Plays attractive football, got a bang average Northampton promoted and could possibly persuade Enda Stevens back. But please not Neil Harris.

Don't know at the moment, u haven't gave it too much thought, just wanted him gone. I guess Russel Martin would be good but would be a gamble. At least we'd see some nice football.

@ben_nickers

Daniel stendel until the end of the season

@MatBrett

Robbins (Coventry), Appleton (Lincoln), Martin (MK Dons) are my top three #pompey

@AlanRodhouse

Much as I'd love Wilder or Howe, I can't see it. Russell Martin seems to be one thats being talked about. I'm sure Harry would do it till the end of the season…

@mpearson_18

I’d love to see Eddie Howe, but realistically Ryan Lowe would be decent too

@SwaggaJaggon
