Pompey are going back to Wembley after tonight sealing the most dramatic of last-ditch wins over Exeter in the EFL Trophy.

John Marquis grabbed the 3-2 win with virtually the last touch of the game at Fratton Park against the League Two high-fliers.

It looked as if Burgess’ 89th-minute own goal had condemned Pompey to defeat before Cameron McGeehan scored a stoppage-time leveller and then Marqus won it in the sixth minute of stoppage time.

The defender stated he certainly felt his mistake would cost his team dearly.

Burgess told Sky Sports when asked if he was the most relieved man on the south coast: ‘I think so! I thought I might have lost it for us there.

‘Scoring an own goal is not a nice feeling, but the boys saved me - Cam (McGeehan) and John (Marquis) so I’m delighted.’
